We were very excited for Baby Godzilla to arrive so we made a little welcome banner.

Here they are chilling in the smaller enclosure, they can go into the larger one when they’re a little bigger.

The package was supposed to be delivered by 1pm special delivery but at 12:45 we got a message saying the package couldn’t be delivered. I started to panic because I didn’t want the little guy to stay overnight in the delivery office but the package was delivered a later at about 15:00ish instead so it wasn’t a long wait.

The postie left the package outside the door and ran off (I assume they must have been extra busy) and a wild friend climbed onboard. We think it could be an orb-weaver spider but we’re not 100% sure? We put her back outside after this photo.

The packaging from Arachnamoria was really nice. The spider was well protected with a lot of paper cushioning the container and a little travel snack in the container with the spider. There was also a nice little help sheet with advice on caring for the spider and a little info card (pictured above) with the spiders hatch date and parents.

I’ve managed to feed the spider twice, it was tough getting the flies into the small container. For the first one my partner and I put a flightless fruit fly through the little feeding hatch at the top of the enclosure. This was pretty hard since the fly wanted to keep climbing up our hands and it was tough trying to catch it without squishing it. Eventually we managed to use a small spoon and feed it through the hole.

For the second feeding it was just me alone. I just opened the container when Baby was in the top half then flicked a fly into the bottom half. The fly jumped out a couple times but I managed to catch it both times.

I didn’t see the first fly being eaten but I managed to catch the second. The first fly was a bit coy and was hiding a little. The second didn’t have that preservation instinct and pretty much walked right up to Baby.

There’s so much more I want to say about Baby (like how their little butt wiggled when they were making their nest or how it felt like they were looking right at me and waving), but this is getting long. I’ll finish up by saying I got a macro lens for my phone and it works pretty well. I need some more practice with it but I’ve managed to get a few nice pictures like the one above. Hopefully I can get a lot of nice shots in the future.
